Description of the front of the card
The scene features two soldiers. In the foreground, on the left, one soldier figure is looking through a theodolite, which is a precise surveying instrument. Imagine a sophisticated telescope mounted on a sturdy base, designed to measure angles both horizontally and vertically with extreme accuracy. It's used to map and survey land, establish boundaries, or assist in construction. This theodolite is mounted on a tripod, a three-legged stand that provides a stable base for the instrument. You can think of it like a very strong, tall easel or camera stand, ensuring the theodolite remains perfectly still and level for accurate readings. The tripod is made of rigid materials, and its legs spread out to create a wide, balanced foundation.
The tripod itself is red and white. The color red is often associated with warmth and intensity, like the glowing heat from a fire, or a strong, vibrant sensation. The color white often brings to mind a sense of coolness, purity, or clarity, much like the refreshing feel of fresh snow or the crispness of clean linen. So, the tripod has sections of this intense, warm red alternating with sections of this cool, clear white.
The soldier is wearing a camouflage jacket. This type of pattern is specifically designed to help the wearer blend in with their environment, making them difficult to see or pick out from the background. It's not about being invisible, but about making the person harder to distinguish; imagine the clothing being designed so that the wearer's shape appears irregular and broken, rather than a solid, easily identifiable form, much like how uneven ground might naturally obscure something.
Below the jacket, he wears dark trousers. For 'dark' in this context, it refers to a deep, absorbing quality, similar to the profound and rich taste of dark chocolate; it's about a concentration or intensity, rather than a bright or light presence.
He also wears black boots. For 'black,' imagine the profound silence and stillness of a very deep night, a sense of complete quiet and the vastness of an empty space; it's about an absolute quality.
Finally, he has various accessories attached to his belt. These are individual items, like small pouches or tools, that are designed to hang securely, having loops or straps on their back that slide directly onto the belt itself, or clips that grip the belt fabric, ensuring they stay firmly in place as he moves.
In the background, on the right, another soldier figure is standing, holding a similar red and white tripod over his shoulder.
He is wearing a camouflage uniform, meaning his entire outfit has that same pattern designed to help him blend into his surroundings, making his shape appear irregular and broken, much like uneven ground might naturally obscure something.
On his head, he wears a helmet, which is a piece of protective headwear. Imagine a hard, rigid shell that fits snugly over the top and sides of the head, designed to shield it from impacts or falling debris. It feels solid and typically has a smooth or slightly textured outer surface, covering the skull from the forehead to the back of the neck, and often extends down around the ears for added protection.
The scene is set in what feels like a destroyed urban landscape. Imagine walking through an area where buildings once stood tall, but now they are broken and crumbled. The ground isn't smooth pavement; instead, it's covered with rubble and debris – scattered pieces of concrete, wood, and twisted metal that would feel uneven and crunchy underfoot. It gives a sense of a place that has been heavily damaged.
Above this landscape, the sky appears overcast. This means you wouldn't feel the distinct, directional warmth of the sun; instead, the ambient warmth (or coolness) would feel evenly distributed all around you, without any strong differences between areas that might normally be exposed or in shadow. The air itself might feel still and perhaps a bit cool or damp, with a uniform quality, almost as if a vast, soft blanket stretches overhead, absorbing any sharp contrasts in temperature or light. For sighted people, the sky in such conditions might appear a soft, uniform grey, a color often associated with quietness or a lack of strong sensation, like a still, unruffled surface.
Above where the two soldiers are, there are words written directly on the card itself.
The text says: "Dad could see the pub in the distance." This means a person, referred to as "Dad," was able to perceive a pub directly with his eyes, even though the pub was located far away from him. A "pub" is a type of public house common here in the UK, where people go to drink, socialize, and sometimes eat.
Additionally, the words mentioned on the front of the card will also be presented in the customer's preferred Braille grade, which means they will be in a system of raised dots that you can read by touch, and this option can be selected during the checkout process.
Below the first set of words, the text continues with: "now he just had to plan his escape!" This implies that 'Dad' found himself in a situation where he needed to figure out a way to get away or get out of a difficult or challenging predicament. These words will also be presented in Braille on the front of the card, specifically in a preferred Braille grade, meaning the raised dots might have a particular style or presentation, and this is also selectable by the customer.
